Bikies were ideal as a target, some find them intimidating, there have been reports of criminal activity, a high profile incident, and best of all, they are a small minority that few care about.

Picking off minorities and regions, states, etc is the favoured method of increasing power or looting the people. Rural industries have been particularly vulnerable to these tactics as there are competing interests among them, and you can pick on one sector at a time without worrying the others, at least until its their turn.

"The bloody sugar industry is ruining the reef," is unlikely to disturb the wheat growers.

"The bloody cotton growers are taking all the water," will be applauded by the fruit growers further down stream.

Fishermen have always been very obliging towards the government. For as long as I can remember, the amateurs and professionals have blamed each other for taking all the fish and requested strong action against those other bastards. The government has always obliged. I notice they are not happy with the results.

In the state election before last, a Labor candidate was disendorsed when the press accused him of supporting Hilali. He had in fact made a comment about a year before on an article in support of free speech. It could in no way be logically construed as supporting the guy, or what he said.

Those of us who support freedom have to be prepared to speak out at the risk of censure and demand rights for everyone, even if we don't actually like those people.

I met Russell Wattie during the senate campaign, and he is a bloody good guy and very articulate.Jim Fryarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15780237902858889143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3060534295892170518.post-39440141392141179462010-11-12T01:58:26.108+10:002010-11-12T01:58:26.108+10:00What's slightly worrying is that because it...What's slightly worrying is that because it's bikies people aren't as concerned as they should be. Everything governments do, attempt to do or suggest they'd quite like to do should be looked at not just on its own merits but as a potential precedent. If bikies can lose their freedom of association simply for being bikies then in the future why not unions, religions or political parties that the incumbents dislike?Angry Exilehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02491082312193274360noreply@blogger.com
