Projects like Crime stoppers and neighbourhood watch have been useful in the past to prevent and investigate criminal activities. Noticing this, governments have been anxious to expand the scope of these activities into thought crime and anti social activities.

Anna Bligh, the Queensland Premier has just come up with the neighbourhood snitch pogrom program. Under new waste laws to being introduced, busybodies, self righteous twats, and even those who want to get even, will be empowered to report litterers to the local commissar and also will give the government the authority to issue fines based on public reports. Meanwhile in Austin Texas, council is investigating a scheme where residents will be able to have parking tickets issued by taking a few photographs of someone else's car with their smartphones.
