A bit of fun after a hard day.

I'm glad this one is over, I had a few ideas for something to write but got distracted when I found these crazies on "To The Point News."

I love Sweet Home Alabama and a bit of silliness so I just had to post it. This the introduction and the film: -

Prepare yourself for this one - maybe with a Stoli martini or two.

Back in the days of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Red Army had an official choir composed of male soldiers and musicians. It still exists. The Red Army Choir performs throughout Russia to this day.

Now consider the Finnish rock band called The Leningrad Cowboys. A little while ago, they held a concert in Russia, in which - to the screaming applause of Russkie teen-agers - they got the Red Army Choir to join them on stage for a performance of "Sweet Home Alabama." In English. You couldn't make this up.

We're talking seriously off the wall here. Better have that Stoli ready when you watch it:

Attack on Fitna,

Last night I found this on the American Jingoist.

"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."
 Source Unknown.

Then I find this in “The Australian" today.

Australia hits out at anti-Islam film.

AUSTRALIA has added its voice to the international chorus of outrage over an anti-Islam film posted on the Internet by a right wing Dutch politician.

Foreign Minister Stephen Smith today said Geert Wilders' film Fitna equated Islam with acts of terror and violence and was "highly offensive".

"It is an obvious attempt to generate discord between faith communities," Mr. Smith said.

"Like leaders in the Muslim world and in Europe, I strongly reject the ideas contained in the film and deplore its release.

"In Australia we believe in the right to freedom of expression but we don't believe in abusing that right to incite racial hatred."

Well, no surprises there, another idiot left liberal following the politically correct line and assuming the duty to tell us that the current wave of islamofascist terrorist attacks and atrocities are nothing to do with Islam. It would be kind to call this stupid bastard a bloody liar, because to assume he believes what he is saying must surely be an insult to his intelligence if he has any.

Certainly there are many moderate Islamics out there who live peacefully among us, are good citizens, and are accepted and liked in the general community. The film, “Fitna,” casts no aspersions on those people. It simply points to the violent, evil, and insane activities and rantings of an extreme element within the faith, who in my opinion and in reality have shown little regard for the loss of life among the members of their own faith that in most cases they themselves cause.

As I have said before, if moderate Islamic people are offended by the publicity engendered by this movie, they should direct their rage at the arseholes who are bringing their faith into disrepute, not at Geert Wilders. He did not invent any of this, he simply put together footage of actual events that are out there in the public domain, linking them to passages in the Koran that are used by terrorists to justify those acts.

If those moderates don’t like the name of their faith being dragged through the mud by extremists, its time for them to speak out and demand an end to their activities, and come out of their denial. Until they do Islam will continue to resemble a cult similar to those of Jimmy Jones or David Koresh, not a faith.

I don’t hear you.

“Dark Hour - a Sign of the Times”.

By Viv Forbes.

The Carbon Sense Coalition today came out in support of “lights out” during Earth Hour (Saturday 30th ) but claimed the time should be renamed “Dark Hour” and suggested that consumers should also forgo the consumption of gasoline and diesel during this period.

The chairman of “Carbon Sense”, Mr Viv Forbes, claimed that consumers should spend the hour they sit in the dark with no transport, air conditioning or hot coffee, remembering the contribution that carbon fuels have made to modern society.

“And while contemplating this hour of darkness, they should steel themselves for the hour when, if the Global warming alarmists have their way, this will become a necessity not a nicety.

“The only thing that lifted mankind from the Stone Age was carbon energy from coal, oil and gas – for heating; for steam power; for electricity and water; for mining, smelting and refining of metals; for transport on land, sea and air; for lighting, heating, cooling and communications; for production of food and chemicals; and for power for processing and manufacturing.

“All of this comfort, safety, convenience and prosperity is now threatened by hysterical claims that man’s carbon emissions can and should be stopped. Even though the weather records and the science deny the doomsday forecasts, the politicians, like lemmings, are leading us over the Greenhouse Cliff. Without the nuclear parachute, it will not be a pleasant fall.

“Many other countries have already experienced their own dark days, most caused by silly decisions taken to appease the Greenhouse Gods.

“If we continue down this path, we can no longer assume that electricity will come at the flick of a switch. Consumers need to learn a new vocabulary for these bad new times – “load shedding, demand management, quota allocation, rolling blackouts, brownouts, emission permits, load prioritisation, interruptible customers, emergency customers, zone rota systems, power emergency declarations, priority lines, three-day-week rationing, power outages, grid instability, electricity rationing, operating reserve, maintenance shutdowns . . . .” - all the jargon of a power system in crisis, suffering from stagnant or falling capacity and growing demand.

“One of the first places to experience power shortages was, appropriately enough, California in the early 2000’s, where Deep Greens have harassed and delayed every practical method of generating base-load power. The operating reserve margin in California is now about 5% whereas 15% is considered safe. More “Dark Hours” can be expected there. And their Green Tick solar collectors will produce 12 Dark Hours EVERY DAY.

“Then came South Africa, which was forced to shut its big mines for several hours because of insufficient power to guarantee safe operation of the hoists. The South African government has now admitted that demand for electricity will exceed supply until 2013 – five years of dark hours are in prospect there.

“Then it was China’s turn. The Global Cooling of 2007 plus insufficient generating capacity and inadequate coal stocks caused widespread power failures. Whole regions and millions of people were forced to cope with blizzards without power for days. Power blackouts and brownouts hit 17 Chinese provinces.

“Then one day in Texas recently, the wind dropped, the whirling blades stopped turning, power supply collapsed and load shedding commenced before the old reliables of coal, nuclear or gas could pick up the slack.

“The aging European power grids are now also subject to similar disruptions from the intermittent supply from unreliable sources like wind and solar. However France has been very canny by building large nuclear capacity, then agitating for decarbonisation for their competitors. Foolish Germany got sucked into this caper, but also committed to phase out their nuclear power. It is not possible to cut both nuclear power and carbon emissions at the same time without morbid consequences. Germans can only continue this rot while their accommodating neighbours will sell them the power.

“Across Africa, the Americas and the -stans, the same problem appears – an aging power grid and an orchestrated campaign to delay and deter new power stations.

“Even here in Queensland, the coal capital of the world, a few blackouts in 2004 revealed an over-loaded and under-funded electricity grid. There may be a few more Dark Hours for us, at less convenient times.

“Australia and New Zealand both live in cuckoo land, believing they can maintain living standards in the face of population growth while drastically cutting carbon emissions and prohibiting nuclear power. Saturday’s “Dark Hour” caper may be just a practice run.

“So, let us all in Australia and New Zealand spend our “Dark Hour” thinking on the realities of life - such as where we will get the electricity, motor fuel, food and jobs for our kids and grandkids if we allow the Deep Greens to destroy our backbone industries, on the false promise that our sacrifice will improve the future climate.

To steal a phrase from my friend, Rod Bates: “On Saturday night, after they have turned off their lights, I suggest the participants in Earth Hour wander down to the nearest beach, pee into the sea and observe what effect it has on the tide.”

“This will illustrate the effect that cutting man-made carbon emissions will have on future climate.”

Additional Notes:
Both the science and the past records are indicating very strongly that man-made carbon dioxide has negligible consequences for climate change. For a very good summary of the science, by a scientist, in plain language see:

http://www.middlebury.net/op-ed/global-warming-01.html

Given the political momentum for the introduction of damaging policies such as Emissions Trading or Carbon Taxes, Carbon Sense repeats its call for a joint ANZ Royal Commission into the science of man-made global warming. Carbon Sense strongly believes that only through settling the science will the truth emerge.”

Live Leaks Forced to pull Fitna.

Click Fitna on the previous post and a message comes up explaining their action. Islam is apparently using its usual intellectual response to criticism, threats to kill people.

This is a version from You Tube.

And

Perhaps the Islamic community should stop bleating about this, and realize that the events depicted in the film are happening. This is being caused by their hardliners, not Bush, not western society, not anyone but the extremists hell bent on world domination in their midst.

It seems incredible that not only do some of you condone these types of acts but assert that the perpetrators should be above criticism for them. Your rage if you are sane should be directed toward those who commit these atrocities in your name, not those who speak of it

More on Censoring Wilders.

Flickr Photo by: Marco Wessel.

The caption on this photo in Planc's Constant was: In the photo here we see Dutch idiots apologizing to Muslims for a film no one has yet seen.

In addition to the previous post I recommend an article referred to in Planck’s Constant Which goes on to quote the Brussels Journal about appeasment, “Appeasing the Islamists: Geert Wilders’s Ordeal and the Lessons of the Past,” by Paul Belien.

Adolf Hitler realized the importance of having a good press. In Nazi Germany with its press censorship, it was easy for Hitler to have a good press. However, during the 1930s the Nazis also tried to control the media in the neighboring European countries that Hitler was planning to invade. The Nazis bullied the democratically elected governments in these countries to censor everything that resembled what today might be called “Naziphobia” – criticism of Nazism.

Interestingly, the bullied governments gave in to the Nazi intimidation rather than back the few courageous individuals who spoke out against totalitarianism. In the late 1930s, SS Gen. Karl Gebhardt (a medical doctor who was hanged after the war for conducting “experiments” on humans) frequently paid visits to his friend, King Leopold III of Belgium, to complain about “German unfriendly remarks” in the Belgian press. King Leopold asked Paul-Henri Spaak Belgium’s leading politician at the time, to forbid “anti-German” references in the Belgian media and ban non-Belgian papers that were critical of Hitler and his regime.

Spaak, who after the war became one of the founding fathers of the European Union, urged his colleagues in the government “to consider the possible consequences of the press campaigns against Germany.” The ministers were also under pressure from Viscount Davignon, the Belgian ambassador to Berlin, who looked upon them as “cowards” because they did not “dare to impose censorship.” Belgium gave in to the Nazi demands and banned “anti-German and unpatriotic publications,” including foreign papers such as the British Daily Express.

Belgium’s submission to the Nazi demands, however, did not prevent Hitler from invading the country in May 1940. The only result of the Belgian authorities’ appeasement policies was that many ordinary Belgians, at the behest of their own government, had not been able to read articles critical of Hitler. After the war, guess who blamed the young men who had fallen for the Nazi propaganda and volunteered to fight on the Eastern Front? Spaak and his ilk.

Today, we are witnessing a similar phenomenon. Islamist extremists want a good press. They do not tolerate criticism. Even cartoons are deemed offensive. They warn those who criticize them “to consider the possible consequences.”

Good article, well worth reading.

Freedom of Speech, Wilders Site Shut Down.

Copy of website borrowed from Muslims against Sharia.

I came across a comment from a member of the Islamic Reform Movement (website; Muslims against Sharia) which referred to Geert Wilders site for “Fitna The Movie” being suspended by Network Solutions, after complaints.

While I freely acknowledge that Network Solutions is a company which owns the medium on which the site exists, and are free to do what they wish with their property, if they wish to claim lack of bias they have a moral responsibility to being even handed. Extreme Islamic websites exist, advocating all sorts of barbaric shit headedness, attacking all values other than their own, yet NS seems to believe that we must not say anything that will offend them.

The following You Tube vidio “Brad Thor discusses Fitna with Glenn Beck” was on their site and its well worth watching. One of the comments made below on the You Tube site was by ‘Miemerke’; “Political correctness is the *final solution* for free speech...”

According to Brad Thor the movie is about the violent passages in the Koran along with modern day footage showing that they are still considered relevant by some modern day Muslims. He also Quotes Pat Condell who said, “The lie of political correctness is that we are being told that what we should think is more important than what we do think.”

British Libertarian Party.

Sometimes playing around with Google and following links can lead to all sorts of unexpected destinations. Tonight I encountered the British Libertarian party. I saw reference to it in Thoughts on Freedom some time ago however it was just an announcement and I didn’t follow up on it.

Tonight I had a good look through it and some of the stuff I found makes me think we can learn from them. Here are a few of their ideas taken from their Website.

YOU OWN YOURSELF

Owning something means that you have the absolute right to decide what to do with it—whether to use it up, keep it, sell it or give it away. Libertarians believe that everyone has the right to ownership of their own bodies, thoughts and beliefs, and honestly acquired property, be those goods, land, or money. Owning these aspects of yourself means that you should be free to do with them what you choose.

Libertarians believe that coercive actions by individuals, or groups of individuals—for example, the State—against others can never be justified. Such actions can rightly be seen as acts of aggression, and are simply an inappropriate way of behaving towards other people. This does not mean that Libertarians are pacifists, as everyone has the right to defend the property that they own—including themselves; rather, it is the act of initiating aggression that is morally unacceptable.

On Taxes

The Libertarian Party proposes moving, within the first term of a Libertarian government, purely to consumption based taxes, and then only on non-essential goods. This will effectively mean choice over the amount of tax that you pay—the more goods that you buy, the more funds that you will contribute to the State to undertake its functions. Not only is this far fairer, but it's also the only truly effective way of looking after our environment, as it will ensure that the more natural resources that an individual uses, the more that they have to pay. In short, whilst income taxes are unfair and arbitrary, consumption taxes are fair and green.

A Key Principle — The Rule of Law

The concept of The Rule of Law is distinct from just being ruled by laws. The Rule of Law encompasses, amongst other things, property rights, due process, equality and transparency. It also includes the notion that there should be as few laws as possible, and that those that do exist should be simple, clear and predictable in their application.

A Scholarship For Every Child

We shall move to a voucher system similar to that in Sweden, coupled with what we believe to be an essential component of any successful voucher system—the ability for people to found schools wherever they wish and for existing schools to opt out of direct State control. We do not envisage a mass sell-off of State assets, but a switch to independent not-for-profit and private entities competing openly.

Defense And Security

Our aim is to ensure a strong, independent, sovereign nation. This requires a well funded, trained and equipped professional Armed Forces (both full time and Reservist), geared for the defense of our nation and shipping.

Energy independence will remove the need and temptation for the UK to be involved in many theatres of conflict around the world.

Firearms Legislation

The Libertarian Party stands by the right of peaceful citizens to defend themselves against violent attackers and burglars within the law, and will make it a priority to bring the laws on self defense back into line with common sense.

As one of our first steps to reduce the violent crime rate, a Libertarian Government will immediately move to repeal the ban on the ownership and carrying of non-lethal defensive weaponry by law-abiding people. Muggers, rapists and racist thugs make a habit of carrying knives and other lethal weapons in order to prey on the innocent. For too long the law has prevented their intended victims from protecting themselves using the non-lethal technology which is available to the citizens of most civilized countries.

This long-overdue reform is not a charter for vigilantes, but will have the effect of shifting the balance of power on the streets back towards peaceful citizens, where it belongs.

Constitutional

"And I do declare that no foreign prince, person, prelate, state or potentate hath or ought to have any jurisdiction, power, superiority, pre-eminence or authority, ecclesiastical or spiritual, within this realm. So help me God." From the Oath of Allegiance in the English Bill of Rights, 1689

The Libertarian Party is committed to reassert the primacy of our Bill of Rights and Common Law system over the Napoleonic system that has encroached from the continent in recent years.

There is a lot more there. Anyone interested in limiting government, instead of government limiting you will find a great deal to think about.

Obama, Here is a Suggestion for more Spiritual Guidence.

Jeremiah Wright and Abu Bakar Bashir; Only their mothers could tell them apart in their language.

Obama has refused to distance himself from his pastor Jeremiah Wright for his racist anti-white American diatribes. I suppose the man has put him in touch with his African roots.

The reverend Wright's claims from the pulpit that the U.S. government invented HIV as a means of genocide against people of color, that America was morally responsible for Sept. 11 (chickens coming home to roost), and that the government gives drugs to black people, presumably to enslave them.

He also proclaimed moral satisfaction in the deaths of 3,000 innocents at a time when their bodies were still being sought at Ground Zero, and urges people to curse America, “Don’t say God bless America, say God damn America,” and the list goes on.

But hey Obama, there is far more to your heritage than this, and I think I have found just the guy to bring it to you.

In the talk - given in October last year and captured on video by an Australian PhD student - Abu Bakar Bashir urges his followers to "beat up" western tourists, whom he likens to "worms, snakes and maggots".

"God willing there are none [tourists] here," he told the young Indonesian audience. "If there were infidels here, just beat them up. Do not tolerate them.

"Worms, snakes, maggots - those are animals that crawl. Take a look at Bali... those infidel tourists. They are naked.

Bashir was convicted of conspiracy over the 2002 Bali bombings - which killed 88 Australians - serving 26 months in prison.

Experts have interpreted Bashir's comments as a sign the cleric has become emboldened since being released from prison last year.

He has also defended three bombers on death row over the 2002 Bali attacks, saying they acted in good faith to defend Islam.

If Obama’s fathers African heritage is so important to him, that he goes to a racist bigot like Wright, perhaps he should go to a spiritual bigot like Bashir to put him in touch with his fathers Islamic heritage.

McCain Consistently Correct on Middle East.

Aid worker and former army major Stuart Cameron who was murdered in Iraq as part of a terror campaign by Saddam Hussein.

John McCain has been vindicated over claims that Iran was linked to al Qaeda as well as Shia terrorism in Iraq.

As a supporter of the war in Iraq he is consistently being proven right. The left loves to ridicule the idea of the Iraqi regime sponsoring terrorism, however they are being left with egg on their faces on this too.

In a recent article in Librtarian Republican, “Pentagon Report released: Anti-War Left still denying Saddam's extensive links to Radical Islamic Terrorism,” by Andrew Murphy, this assertion is quashed: -

Furthermore, stories from the "New York Times" in April 2003 report that western intelligence had discovered in 2000 and early 2001, Bin Laden had picked up where his mentor left off with the Kurdish Islamists. Bin Laden hosted several Kurdish Islamists in Afghanistan and preached the need for a unite front against the secular Kurdish leadership.

Soon after these meetings, in December 2001, the Ansar al Islam group was pieced together by the Islamists. After the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 by the USA, many of the al-Qaeda leadership and foot soldiers were chased out of their home base and sanctuary elsewhere. ……………..

Qusay Huessin(Saddam's other son) supplied Ansar with weapons, maps and money to carry out their terror attacks against the Kurdish leadership.

Likewise, members of the Fedayeen Saddam(the regime's storm troopers) held meetings with Ansar members in northern Iraq. Kamel's testimony has with stood the test of time, Kamel had also warned the USA that Saddam had eliminated all his WMD that were stockpiled. Thus when it came down to it, Saddam used Ansar and their al-Qaeda comrades in arms for his own ends.

It concludes: -
Whether or not Saddam Huessin officially or covertly collaborated with Al-Qaeda still doesn't change the core facts that the Baathist regime committed genocide, funded and supported international terrorism, attempted to monkey around with WMDs' and committed two separate acts of aggressive war against its neighbors within a decade(Iran & Kuwait). These reason alone dictated international actions against the former psychopathic dictator.

Saddam's use of Al-Qaeda in northern Iraq simply illustrates and gives yet another example of the terror, the horror and the nihilistic insights into one of the foulest regimes that existed on the planet prior to 2003.

Go to the full article via the link above, it is an eye opener.

Here is another example of state terror by the regime in relation to the murder of aid workers who gave humanitarian aid to the Kurds.

The Australian this weekend carried a report titled, “Saddam had Aussie killed” in which documents link the murder of aid workers directly to Saddam Hussein: -

SADDAM Hussein's Iraqi regime had an Australian aid worker killed as part of a state-sponsored terror program that also considered a plan to "eliminate" Australian-educated Martin Indyk, the former US ambassador to Israel.

Top-secret Iraqi documents confirm for the first time that Care Australia worker Stuart Cameron was shot in Iraq in 1993 as part of a government campaign against foreign aid workers helping Kurds in the country's north.

In one letter, Iraqi intelligence boasts about its performance after killing Cameron, a former Australian army major and father of two, and other aid workers. At the same time, however, Saddam's regime was publicly expressing outrage and blaming Cameron's death on Kurds.

In May 1993, Iraqi intelligence wrote to Iraq's defense minister in a letter marked "top secret and private" that Cameron's murder was "executed by our directorate in fulfillment of your excellent direction".

Care Australia was one organization providing Kurds in northern Iraq with humanitarian aid after vicious reprisals from Saddam's regime following an unsuccessful uprising against the government at the end of the first Gulf War in 1991.

Cameron died in an ambush when several heavily armed gunmen fired at him and co-worker Joe Martinico, who was wounded in the attack.

Still the bloody leftist apologists are trying to deny this. “The then chairman of Care Australia, former prime minister Malcolm Fraser, said yesterday he was sceptical about the claims made in the Iraqi documents. "I just don't believe it," he said.

"Under Saddam Hussein, horrible and hateful at he was, Iraq was one of the safest countries for Care to operate in.

"If it was suspected the Iraqi government was involved, then why did no one at Care tell me that at the time?"

WELL DIPSHIT THEY DIDN'T KNOW.

Malcolm Fraser was the second worst Prime Minister Australia ever had. He only achieved office by default, owing to being preceded by the worst one, Gough Whitlam, who ran the most inept government in living memory. Mals greatest achievement was to make Bob Hawke look good enough to be elected PM.

Local Government Elections, some great results.

Photo Tom Gilmore, Mayor Tablelands Shire.

By Jim Fryar.

Here in Queensland we have just completed our local authority elections after the amalgamation of quite a few shires, which was instituted by the state Labor government in the name of efficiency. However as local authorities tend to be the major training ground for future conservative MPs there is some suspicion that there may have been ulterior motives.

Labor has attacked this ‘problem’ in the past by requiring that any councillor or alderman standing for parliament resign from that position, and now they will have to try harder, as they got a flogging in the councils where politics plays a part.

Most councils in this state are non-political, and the candidates use no party affiliation. Brisbane and Townsville are however notable exceptions, both having been dominated by Labor in recent times, although Brisbane had a Liberal (conservative for those who do not know our wording here) mayor for the whole of the last term, but with a Labor council.

He now has a Liberal council with a substantial majority to work with, and in Townsville the news is even better, Tony Mooney, the long-standing Labor mayor has been soundly thrashed by an independent, and none of the Labor team was elected.

Tom Gilmore a guy I went to school with, and a former National Party minister has been elected as mayor of Tablelands up in North Qld. Tom unfortunately lost his parliamentary seat when the One Nation Party briefly fared well, before people realized what it was about and it imploded.

It would appear that there is a resurgence in conservative politics in the state and hopefully the Labor Party is on the way out. The former premier Peter Beattie was good with the media but when he quit he followed the old political adage “Always get yourself succeeded by someone less competent than yourself, so you look better,” and so he anointed Anna Blyth.

Tom assures me that by the end of the year Labor will be out in two states, which sounds like a reasonable prediction as they are starting to look pretty bad. The Rudd federal government is starting to reveal what it was really on about and that wont help the Labor state governments at all.

I feel quite sure that if the National Party and Liberal Party can sort things out between themselves and get their act together they will give Labor a pizzeling next year.

Locally our council was amalgamated with the shire next door as well as the southern division of the one to the north of us. The result went reasonably with a reasonable spread of councillors across the whole area, although the northern division missed out. Hopefully at the next election this can be rectified, and in the meantime I am pretty sure some of those elected will ensure they get a fair go.

A prominent local extremist, formed a team to contest the election with him as mayor, however failed dismally and none of his team were elected. I have sympathy for his views against gun control, however being a dominant personality he tends to be surrounded by acolytes rather than friends or supporters.

However his views on other subjects are extreme as the following examples show: -

On prostitution,
Prostitution was wiped out, eliminated, in China in the nineteen fifties, sixties and seventies. It has only recurred in the nineties, when the country's moral character has come under attack from the decadent West. …………….

The parliament of today may not have the moral backbone to execute the Pimps, Brothel Keepers, Police bribe taker's and corrupt politicians as Mao did. ………..

On Homosexuality,
………….. a lifestyle that is opposed to families, he promotes a lifestyle which kills families, many more family members than the motorcar or tobacco or alcohol combined, he advocates and promotes Homosexuality. They cannot reproduce more homosexuals they have to prey and convert people to their deadly lifestyle. If any of them miss out on Aids and do not die of infections caused by their foul promiscuous activities they are a freak if they reach the age of fifty-five. The tragedies, family break ups, suicides, drug overdoses, whittle them away constantly, they need replacements to whose family do they look next?
This guy really needs to lighten up a bit. Although I disagree with prostitution and am straight I find this sort of stuff just plain sick.

I personally have a strong commitment to ‘conventional’ morality, however a lack of such commitment by others is none of my business. Those who feel strongly about such things have the right to talk to people and try to get them to see the ‘right way,’ if those people wish to listen.

To live according to a perception of personal morality and to advocate doing so is proper, to try to force others to live by those values, or launch venomous diatribes against those who follow a different path is wrong. Virtue is only virtue when it is a chosen path. To advocate virtue is noble, to advocate legal prohibition is sanctimonious.

A great show from the Sanity Squad

The image of the Sanity Squad.

There are a few Blogs that I check daily, and a number I keep an eye on regularly, and Dr. Sanity is about in between, I often check her out and thoroughly recommend her to anyone on our side of politics.

This time I followed the link to The Sanity Squad on blog talk radio, with the latest show an excellent one about, well to put it in their own words;

Tonight, Neo, Siggy, Shrink and Dr. Sanity shine the psychological spotlight on the Obama-Wright connection; and analyze the study of Al Qaeda suicide bombers that was recently released by the US military. Join us! We are four Mental Health Professionals who regularly shine a psychological spotlight on a few of the insanities of today's world!

If you have a bit of time this is really worthwhile.

A Journey to Freedom

The 35th anniversary of the release of John McCain from the Hanoi Hilton has inspired this vidio which I found here: -

In this one McCain pins down one of the great issues of the campaign, he offers substance, the Dems are concentrating on empty rhetoric of 'change', and as in our recent election in Australia they are not saying too much about the detail.

Why Ron Paul Supporters Should Vote For McCain

Some time ago I was asked by Eric Dondero to publish an article by him on a call by Saul Anuzis for Ron Paul Libertarians to Stay in the GOP. This aroused a certain degree of dissent from some of Ron Paul’s more radical supporters who seemed to have little better to do than trawl the net looking for anything against their candidate and harassing them.

I have found a similar call from a libertarian, presenting a really good case for support for John McCain by libertarians. The blog is Copious Dissent, run by Devil's Advocate, a libertarian, and
Red Wolverine, a Conservative. The article that I am referring to is “Why Ron Paul Supporters should vote for McCain.”

Some of the stuff mentioned is: -

………. The passion that Ron Paul supporters have for liberty now needs to fill a void, and many terrible decisions are likely to be made unless Ron Paul advocates really consider what is at stake.
As a libertarian, I understand their concerns. Ron Paul stood for the same guiding principles espoused by Ludwig von Mises, which included limited government, lower taxes, little or no regulation, sound monetary policy, and a humble foreign policy. With no candidate in the race that supports any of those views sufficiently to make a staunch libertarian happy, it is easy to get discouraged. Please don’t. …………….
On the war: -
None of the three candidates are going to get us out of Iraq, not one. Barack Obama claims that we would only be in Iraq to prevent Al Qaeda from building bases there, or for humanitarian effort. The translation of that sentence is that we would be using our military to do exactly what they are doing now. ……….

Hillary Clinton also does not plan to take our troops out of Iraq either. Her position is essentially the same as Barack Obama’s, but she lies to her base when nobody else is around to call her on her bluff. ………..

John McCain is the only candidate who is very honest about what he wants to do. He wants to destroy any ability for radical Islam to brew in Iraq, and keep our troops there for a long-time doing so. Our troops will stay in Iraq as long as the casualty rate is kept as low as possible, and the conflict is not costing American taxpayers too much money. Furthermore, he has the experience and knowledge to be able to reach this goal.

……….. For example, if John McCain is elected, Iraq will likely end up looking similar to Germany or Japan in several decades. It is a relatively uncontroversial position to want to pull our troops out of Germany today. The same will be true for Iraq if the Iraq conflict is over in the shortest amount of time.
On the constitution: -
Only John McCain has voted for Originalist Justices in the past and will do so in the future. With Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, you are guaranteed to get someone to the Left of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The Conclusion: -
Now is not the time to make irrational decisions: The Constitution is at stake along with your liberties, and being an intellectual purist at this time is not going to get you what you asked for. So please vote for John McCain.

Manhattan Conference on Global Warming indicates that “No Regrets” is the best policy.

By Viv Forbes, BScApp, FAusIMM, FSIA

The Carbon Sense Coalition based in Australia, says that the science and empirical evidence on Global warming is now clearly indicating that a “No Regrets” policy is the best course for the world to follow.

The Carbon Sense Coalition was one of the 52 organisations from 20 different countries which co-sponsored the recent International Conference on Climate Change in New York. Al Gore was invited to address the conference (he was even promised his $200,000 fee) but he declined to appear. Jim Hansen of NASA, another prominent alarmist, was also invited, but declined. (Contrast this with the Bali conference when a delegation of prominent sceptical scientists sought to present their petition to the UN. They were denied admission and refused an audience.)

The Chairman of “Carbon Sense” Mr Viv Forbes, who attended the conference along with about 20 other Australian and New Zealand speakers and observers, said that with over 500 delegates attending over 100 sessions presented and discussed by scientists, economists, politicians and policy analysts (many of world standing) there was no aspect of global warming science and policy that was not examined in the light of current knowledge and evidence.

For more information on the conference see:The Heartland Institute , and American Thinker.

Forbes claimed that a number of clear conclusions arose from the conference:

There is no doubt that the earth is in a warming phase, and has been in this phase for some 300 years. Warming started after the frigid years of the Little Ice Age, and has continued, in waves, ever since.

There is no doubt that the short warm eras in earth’s history have proved very beneficial for life on earth as evidenced by the rising population, increased prosperity, increased life span, increased food production and the flourishing of art and architecture that has accompanied every one of the recent warm eras. Ice Ages, not Warm Ages, are the big threats to life on earth.

There is considerable uncertainty about the future trends in earth’s temperature. However, there is close correlation between past temperature trends and variations in solar output and planetary cycles, and these indicate that the current warming is likely to end, no matter what man does, maybe within decades. The cooling may have already started.

It is very clear that carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have risen, but close study of the correlations between CO2 and temperature shows that it is far more likely that temperature changes trigger changes in CO2 levels. Past records also show that current levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are neither unusual nor concerning.

There are no credible claims or evidence from any quarter that current or projected levels of CO2 in the atmosphere pose any other threat to human, animal or plant life on earth. CO2 is not a contributor to air pollution; in fact it is a precious plant food on which all life on earth depends.
Man’s activities contribute less than 5% of total emissions into the atmosphere, and this addition has had only minor effect (probably undetectable) on the rising temperature trend.

There is good evidence that oceans, volcanoes and other natural sources expel large but variable quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere. Oceans expel CO2 as they warm and absorb it as they cool.

It is agreed in all quarters that the computerised General Circulation Models utilised heavily by the IPCC to produce their warming alarms have no proven ability to forecast climate even one year in advance, let alone the 50 or more years that some people have quoted.

It is a fact that CO2 and the other atmospheric gases provide an insulating blanket to the earth, keeping surface temperature higher than it would otherwise be. However, science is agreed that CO2’s warming potential is almost exhausted, and even if current levels of CO2 doubled, it would not on its own cause alarming global warming. There is nothing to fear from CO2 induced warming.

The large positive warming feedbacks assumed by the IPCC are quite likely to be much smaller or even negative. Recent work is showing that the earth has a huge capacity to distribute and dissipate heat via winds, ocean currents, evaporation, precipitation and radiation to space. There is a large degree of self regulation in the natural global temperature controllers.

“In summary, man is not as important or as smart as some people believe he is. He is nowhere near to understanding the complex interactions between the big climate players – the sun, planetary cycles, atmospheric circulation, volcanoes and the dominating role of water in clouds, in the atmosphere, in the oceans, and in snow and ice. Moreover, his tiny contribution to an extremely minor atmospheric gas such as CO2 is highly unlikely to be the main driver of world climate.

“The inevitable conclusion to be drawn from the above observations is that man is unlikely to achieve any positive climate benefits from a very costly and disruptive policy of forcible decarbonisation of all human activities. The earth will largely ignore him.

“This indicates that the huge sums of money contributed by consumers, taxpayers and businesses to this futile war on carbon will be largely wasted, and future generations will have great regrets that their parents were so profligate with their inheritance.

Forbes claimed that the nations of the world should follow a “No Regrets Policy” which yields dividends no matter what the future climate holds.

“We should abandon all policies that assume either warming or cooling, because there is no clear evidence on what the future holds.

“We should be strengthening our ability to adapt our lifestyle and our economy to whatever climate the future holds for us. We can be certain that climate will change, perhaps dramatically, but no one is yet competent to predict it, and man is powerless to have significant effect on it.

“A “No Regrets” policy means exposing all people to the full cost of their actions, and allowing the climate and the market to deter silly practices and encourage sensible ones.

“Specifically, all governments should assist their communities to adapt to whatever changes are surely in store for us by ceasing to mandate market shares for any particular energy source, and abolishing all discriminatory energy taxes and subsidies and all limits, caps and taxes on harmless emissions of CO2. They should also abandon all plans to mandate the Emissions Trading Game – leave that to the gamblers who choose to play. It will be more fun than Monopoly with a similar outcome – a few big winners and all the rest losers.

“No one has the right to gamble the seed corn of the community on preparing for last year’s climate crisis. Governments are currently planning to spend huge and growing amounts of money on the very dubious assumption that global warming is a clear and present danger. This money would be far better spent on infrastructure to insulate us from future shortages of water, energy or food, procuring emergency equipment that can cope with ANY natural disaster, tackling real air or water pollution problems or designing policies that ensure that rising prices are left free to discourage the waste of scarce resources.

“Useful equipment and facilities and sound stable policies will serve us well in drought, flood, fire, tempest, tidal wave, global warming or global cooling.

This indeed would be a policy of “No Regrets”.

“Man believes he is a heavy hitter, confident in his ability to dominate and manipulate the climate. But he needs to remember, “Nature bats last”.

Police Raid Terminally Ill for intending Suicide.

From ABC News.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is under fire after raiding the homes of two Victorians suffering from terminal illnesses.

Controversial euthanasia campaigner Doctor Philip Nitschke says AFP officers executed search warrants on 78-year-old Don Flounders of Warragul, and 54-year-old Angie Belecciu of Hastings on Wednesday after the pair announced on television they planned to end their own lives.

Mr. Flounders suffers from the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma and Ms Belecciu is terminally ill with breast cancer.

Dr Nitschke says he received a panicked phone call from Mr. Flounders this morning as the AFP raids were taking place.

"He called me saying 'there are people in my house, what do I do'," Dr Nitschke said.
He says the AFP seized lethal drugs and items from the homes including a diary belonging to Mr. Flounder's wife.

"It's a strange use of resources. Shouldn't they [AFP] be out catching terrorists not raiding the homes of the terminally ill," Dr Nitschke said.

Suicide in the general community is a tragedy, especially youth suicide, followed closely by those who could have found a better solution if they had just talked to someone, or if someone had just listened.

It is however obscene for the federal heavies to be raiding the homes of terminally ill people who express a wish to end it all. I do however think that if Doctor Philip Nitschke and others were not making a political issue of this, more of the terminally ill might be finding that their own doctors would offer some help. Some of them would anyway.

The issue in its most basic state though is, “who owns our lives?” As a libertarian, I believe in individual sovereignty that is that each of us is an independent entity and obviously that ownership is vested in each of us. Contractual arrangements such as marriage and so on may have some bearing on this.

I can see no real reason why a person who has been diagnosed with a terminal condition, whose medical options have run out should not be able to seek relief from a family doctor, if that doctor is willing to offer this. Some counseling would be desirable in these cases, but I see no virtue in forcing these people to live against their wishes.

McCain Almost Home, Huckabee still there.

Photo from 'McCain Blogette' (Meghan McCain) who captions it, "Dad finally gets to chill out (This might be one of my all time fav pics of him!)"

Mike Huckabee says he's staying in the race to help the Republican Party stay true to its core values. To me this is a virtual admission that he has no chance but hopes to influence the party, and affect the direction of the policies.

(From CNN in part.)

Sen. John McCain could clinch the Republican presidential nomination Tuesday, but Mike Huckabee refuses to call it quits.

McCain is 144 delegates shy of sealing the nomination, and 256 Republican delegates are up for grabs Tuesday.

The biggest prizes are Ohio and Texas, where polls show McCain with a comfortable lead. Rhode Island and Vermont also hold contests Tuesday.

Huckabee told reporters the future of his campaign is a fair question if he doesn't take Texas, but he says he believes he has a chance. In Texas, there are 137 delegates at stake.

It would be theoretically possible, but not likely for Huckabee to play spoiler Tuesday, according to CNN senior political analyst Bill Schneider.

"If Huckabee were to win the four states by huge margins, he might be able to prevent McCain from going over the top," Schneider said. "But he'd have to win by pretty solid margins."

This is of course wildly speculative given the polls, given that in CNN’s own "poll of polls" in Texas, McCain leads Huckabee 58 percent to 30 percent.

Still, Huckabee says he's staying in the race to help the Republican Party stay true to its core values.

"I do think that many people need to be looking at the future of our party. If we're not reaching out to younger voters, if we're not capturing the issues that people care about ... then we're going to be an extinct party in another few years," Huckabee said on CNN's "American Morning."

This is fair enough although the ‘extinction’ part is unduly pessimistic. I do agree with him however that efforts have to be made to attract younger voters who are showing a tendency to be drawn to the candidacy of Obama.

I doubt that the age of the candidate we are presenting is a crucial factor, Reagan dealt with this issue well in 84 with the comment, "I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent's youth and inexperience."

Still it would not hurt to look for quality younger people when selecting a VP to run with him, not only to offer a greater attractiveness to those voters, but for the sake of the future. A really great VP in his or her 40s or so, would offer a great Presidential candidate when Johns second term expires.

Obama linked to radical Socialist movement

This is good stuff from a guy who tends to disagree with us on McCain, but is fighting the good fight against the Democrats, and therefore deserves our attention and respect. He, Eric Dondero has posted an excellent article on Libertarian Republican, which shows Obama in his true light.

It will be well worth while following the link and checking out the article, then read the previous post on a possible McCain/Palin ticket.

by Eric Dondero

Barack Hussein Obama refuses to wear an American flag lapel pin, does not put his hand over his heart during the singing of the national anthem and has campaign workers who display flags of Latin America Communist Revolutionary Che Guevera in his Campaign Headquarters. Within the last few weeks, Obama has picked up the support of two Communist leaders: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Nicauraguan President Daniel Ortega.

It's now being revealed that Obama has a hardcore Socialist past here in the US. Human Events investigative reporter Cliff Kincaid on BHO's past connections to the Democratic Socialists of America:

Obama has his own controversial socialist connections. He is, in fact, an associate of a Chicago-based Marxist group with access to millions of labor union dollars and connections to expert political consultants, including a convicted swindler.

Obama's socialist backing goes back at least to 1996, when he received the endorsement of the Chicago branch of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) for an Illinois state senate seat. Later, the Chicago DSA newsletter reported that Obama, as a state senator, showed up to eulogize Saul Mendelson, one of the "champions" of "Chicago's democratic left" and a long-time socialist activist. Obama's stint as a "community organizer" in Chicago has gotten some attention, but his relationship with the DSA socialists, who groomed and backed him, has been generally ignored.

DSA describes itself as the largest socialist organization in the United States and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International. The Socialist International (SI) has what is called "consultative status" with the United Nations... Full story:

Democractic Socialists of America backed Obama in the '90s

In addition, according to Steve Bartin at
News alert.com, Obama, the local Ward "Commuity Organizer" was endorsed by the DSA way back in 1996 in his first run for State Senate:

Barack Obama is running to gain the Democratic ballot line for Illinois Senate 13th District... Luckily, Mr. Obama does not have any opposition in the primary. His opponents have all dropped out or were ruled off the ballot. But if you would like to contribute to his campaign, make the check payable to Friends of Barack Obama...

Later, Obama received the enthusiastic endorsement of the DSA in his failed bid for Congress in 2000. As reported in the Democratic Socialists of America journal
New Ground, March/April 2000:

Barak Obama is serving only his second term in the Illinois State Senate so he might be fairly charged with ambition, but... Obama also has put in time at the grass roots, working for five years as a community organizer in Harlem and in Chicago. When Obama participated in a 1996 UofC YDS Townhall Meeting on Economic Insecurity, much of what he had to say was well within the mainstream of European social democracy.
