Sales surge for Orwell’s 1984
It has been reported for some time
that sales of Atlas Shrugged tend to increase with downturns in the
economy. It now appears that
George Orwell’s novel, 1984 have done the same in response to current
government abuses of power:
In the last 24 hours, sales of the 'big brother' book 1984 on Amazon.com have soared by almost 7000% as the reality of the surveillance state come to the public's attention. As Liberty Blitzkrieg's Mike Krieger notes, we suppose it makes sense that people would want to get up to speed on the dystopian world being constructed rapidly and secretly around them. 1984 is now the 4th fastest rising sales book and 184th most popular on Amazon!
No surprises here.
Can we assume that you deliberately left out half of the sentence?
ReplyDeleteThat "...sales have surged by 7000%....the increase being wholly due to members of parliament the world over as they seek to deploy the Orwell Solution..."
Because if it is Joe/Jane public buying the novel it means that we are at last waking up...
CR.
I think the current events are jogging a few memories of the book and people want to brush up on it.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes think that some of the current sales of Atlas Shrugged are politicians and bureaucrats who wish to use it as a template, thinking that as it was written back in the 50s, they are much more capable of making such a society work this time around.
