“Green New World.”

Cartoon: by William Warren.

“I have seen the future, Malcolm. Imagine a Green Jackboot, stamping on a human face, forever.” - With acknowledgment and apologies to George Orwell, and “1984”.

Green New World still Threatens

By Viv Forbes.

Firstly, Climate Realists have won a big and symbolic victory in Canberra with the rejection by the Australian Senate of the Turnbull/Rudd Ration-N-Tax Scheme.

Who won this victory? Victory has many parents, while defeat is an orphan. Many people helped. Malcolm Turnbull helped by advertising his dedication to philosophies and principles not supported by Liberal members and voters. Dedicated and principled politicians like Steve Fielding, Barnaby Joyce, Dennis Jensen, Cory Bernardi, Nick Minchin and many others turned the tide in parliament. Kevin Andrews and Tony Abbott recognised that decisive action was needed to save the Liberal Party. Seeds sown over years by “Carbon Sense”, the Climate Sceptics, most of the minor political parties and many others suddenly sprouted. Then the Climategate excrement hit the fan and suddenly the media discovered that the “Global Warming Consensus” was dead. The internet ran so hot that even the government media was forced to notice.

Dramatically, the Liberal Party split, Turnbull was deposed and the Ration-N-Tax Scheme was rejected.

However, this is just one battle in a continuing war. Rudd will reintroduce the Rudd/Turnbull bill in January and the Ruddites and Turnbullites will support it. There is still a grave danger that enough watermelon liberal senators will defect to see it passed. A major effort is required by us in January.

Thanks to all those who have sent messages of appreciation to the Carbon Sense Coalition – so many, in fact, that many of them have not received an answer and our inbox is still overflowing. We read them all, but please forgive us if we do not answer them all.

Our Imperfect Allies – Choose the Least Worst

In the excitement of the Liberal Party upheaval and the victory of Tony Abbott, many believed that the war was over, that we can all go back to the beach or the farm, and that life will be good again.

I have never believed that. The battle that started with Plato and Aristotle will never end. In essence it is always a battle between collectivism and freedom, between centralisation and diversification, between central planning and decentralised planning, between state enterprise and private enterprise, between high taxes and low taxes, between democracy and dictatorship. Remember the great Russian, Solzhenitsyn, who observed:

“Democracies are Islands in the immense river of history. The water is always rising.”

If we fight hard we will gain enough space, freedom and prosperity for our grandchildren to live full lives. Then they will have to fight another battle on another issue. The water is always rising.

Despite the great result in the Senate, some of our supporters are disheartened by the fact that the hopes engendered by the Abbott victory have been dashed already by his backpedalling on whether humans cause global warming, and by the retention of alarmists and green energy incompetents in his shadow cabinet.

We need to remember that the world is not black and white. It is black and dirty grey, and we must always choose the least worst option. To defeat Nazism in the 1940’s we were forced to tolerate an alliance with Bolshevism. It may even be that to defeat the ETS we may need the support of some Greens who are unhappy with “Wong Lite”.

Accept any ally but maintain your own integrity and consistency.

We need to use any legal tactic and accept any ally to stall for time. We need time for the growing public anger, concern and scepticism to spread; time for the realities of natural climate change to be asserted; and time for the real costs and dangers of the Ration-N-Tax Scheme to become obvious.

Make no mistake. Once any form of an emissions trading scheme weasels its way onto the law books, there will immediately be created fake paper assets in Emission Permits and Offset Credits, as well as a huge vested interest industry trading credits and benefitting from scams like the renewable energy mandates. The power of these concentrated vested interests in resisting repeal of their legislative protection racket will always defeat the diffuse and decentralised voices of the consumers, tax payers and shareholders who will pay the bills.

We may not be offered the choice between an ETS or no ETS. For example, we may face the choice of supporting an ETS or an increased carbon tax (we already have substantial carbon taxes on coal and oil). In that case, a carbon tax surcharge may be the least worst option, mainly because it is the most honest, has the fewest side effects, and will be the easiest to root out later. All are bad but some are more bad than others.

We are not responsible for the integrity or consistency of our allies. Make sure we maintain our own integrity and logic, but choose and support the least worst option and oppose and expose the worst option.

Green Hypocrites Flock to Copenhagen.

By Viv Forbes.

Cartoon by McCoy.

Right now, over 15,000 green hypocrites, mostly funded by suffering taxpayers, have winged their way in comfortable carbon-fuelled air travel to Copenhagen’s best VIP accommodation. There they will be seeking ways to forcibly reduce our carbon footprint while inflating theirs.

Top rated airlines are booming as important people top up their frequent flyer carbon credits. Concierges are smiling as limousines glide in, full of important people with their entourage of minders, media and courtiers. Lights are blazing, air conditioners humming, kitchens cooking, champagne bubbling and caviar disappearing. The Global Warming Industry will also be there, creating scares, drowning polar bears, melting ice, generating publicity, demanding handouts, seeking exemptions, defending paper credits, and pushing for subsidies and special deals. And of course we will have battalions of largely gullible and fawning media, many also touring on the tab of the tax payers.

There is no way that 15,000 people will draft an agreement. That will be drafted in a back room. Right now the Evil Empire exposed by Climategate will be secretly plotting how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in Copenhagen.

For the full story of the Green Hypocrites swamping Copenhagen see:

Here is our suggestion to the Gallivanting Green Geese of Copenhagen –

Reducing Carbon Footprints – Trim Government

Every day governments exhort us to cut our consumption of everything.

Let them practice what they preach.

For a start let us see all overseas travel by politicians banned, and all public servant travel stopped. Maybe readers can suggest other ways in which our governments can cut their unproductive carbon footprint.

Who is adjusting Australian Temperature Records? Which ones and why?

We have already discovered that many rural temperature records in Australia show no increases for about 100 years. See:

The increases occur in big cities and are caused not by a trace amount of invisible gas in the atmosphere, but by millions of warm blooded human beings with their heat producing stoves, vehicles and machines.

Climategate alerted us to the fact that the Global Warming Priesthood has been adjusting and manipulating the data. Surprise, surprise, most of the adjustments result in creating the appearance of more warming. New Zealand has discovered unexplained heating adjustments. And now Australia is in the spotlight.

Look at the state of temperature records for Darwin.

What do we do now?

The Alarmists running Climategate and the vested interests supporting them will never surrender, so they must be destroyed.

There are four battlefields:

The Science – this is what no one wants to discuss, because it is their area of greatest weakness. But it is the key. Insisting on truth in science and real evidence will destroy the whole basis for any action on innocent carbon dioxide.

The Philosophy – do we support a free decentralised society or do want to live in a world run out of Brussels/Delhi/Washington which demands taxes on everything we do, and controls on every aspect of our lives.

The Costs and Unexpected Consequences. This whole scam will do nothing for the environment or energy conservation, but will make all of our lives less secure, less prosperous, and more boring.

The Policies. This is easy. Humans have not and cannot control the climate; neither can an ETS or a carbon tax. Look after the environment, make sure prices are allowed to ration scarce resources, abolish all the wasteful green subsidies, defend consumers, workers, taxpayers and shareholders and ignore all the screams from bankers, brokers, vested interests and the Climate Change gravy train.

We cannot do everything at once, but every one of us can do something at once. Politics is a numbers game, so every one of us must be looking outward into the electorate. No good battering the same people week after week. We must all seek new disciples. Keep sowing the seeds.

Back to “Green Jackboots” – Isn’t that a Bit extreme, Viv?

Finally, for those who may think our Green Jackboots quote is a bit unlikely, have a look at this:

“This document represents yet another smoking gun proving that the climate cult movement is all about expanding the power of a dictatorial, unelected global government, diluting powers of nation states, seizing control of the global economy, eviscerating the middle class with a raft of new regulations and laws, and shutting down industry with impossible CO2 reduction mandates, while erecting environmentalism, which is really a thin veil for global fascism, as the new universal religion.

This has nothing to do with saving the earth and, as the Climategate scandal has illustrated, nothing to do with the real science – but everything to do with a relatively small clique of globalists running roughshod over humanity itself in pursuit of their Malthusian control freak agenda.”

Remember the cruel and sadistic zeal of the Mao’s Red Guards and the Hitler Brown Shirts.

Gore’s Green Guards are coming.

Murdoch on an independent press.

Since the financial crisis we have seen business leaders lining up at the trough and pleading for government assistance. Generally the argument goes something like this.

Our industry is vital to the economy and the consumers of the land cannot do without it, even though they have stopped buying our product, obviously through no fault of our own. We therefore need an injection of taxpayer dollars to save us from having to pander to crass commercialism.

There has been considerable speculation over the last year as to the prospect of bailing out some of the more poorly performing newspapers, usually on the grounds that their demise will leave the people in the region they serve without the papers they haven’t been buying.

Rupert Murdoch is not a man who wins a hell of a lot of popularity contests, especially with those who oppose his plans to charge for content, however it is refreshing to see his views on keeping the state out of the industry and why:

In my view, the growing drumbeat for government assistance for newspapers is as alarming as overregulation. One idea gaining in popularity is providing taxpayer funds for journalists. Or giving newspapers "nonprofit" status—in exchange, of course, for papers giving up their right to endorse political candidates. The most damning problem with government "help" is what we saw with the bailout of the U.S. auto industry: Help props up those who are producing things that customers do not want.

The prospect of the U.S. government becoming directly involved in commercial journalism ought to be chilling for anyone who cares about freedom of speech. The Founding Fathers knew that the key to independence was to allow enterprises to prosper and serve as a counterweight to government power. It is precisely because newspapers make profits and do not depend on the government for their livelihood that they have the resources and wherewithal to hold the government accountable.

When the representatives of 13 former British colonies established a new order for the ages, they built it on a sturdy foundation: a free and informed citizenry. They understood that an informed citizenry requires news that is independent from government. That is one reason they put the First Amendment first.

Our modern world is faster moving and far more complex than theirs. But the basic truth remains: To make informed decisions, free men and women require honest and reliable news about events affecting their countries and their lives. Whether the newspaper of the future is delivered with electrons or dead trees is ultimately not that important. What is most important is that the news industry remains free, independent—and competitive.

Generally the use of taxpayer funds to prop up failing businesses comes under my definition of aiding the incompetent to do the unnecessary.

Peter Spencer and Property rights.

Owing to the MP4 format being in the on position when opening I have had to drop it from this post. The actual interview can be found here.

This is an an interview by Allan Jones with Peter Spencer who is staging a hunger strike over his treatment by the Australian government. Governments were initially instituted in free societies in order to protect the rights to life, liberty, and property of the citizens. This has effectively been overturned here and elsewhere to the point where the state has assumed the power to be the violator in chief.

Peter has effectively been denied the right to use his land by the Rudd government in order for its use by the government as a carbon sink under the Kyoto protocol. No compensation has been awarded for this loss and Peter has effectively been left in limbo in the vast never never of the Australian legal/political system.

Supporting him is the renowned Barrister Peter King, a leading defender of property rights in this country. Peter was the Member for Wentworth until Malcolm Turnbull slithered into his seat amid branch stacking allegations to eventually become the most ineffective opposition leaders in history until dumped. Since then he has concentrated on undermining the current leader.

Peter has a supporters group on Agmates where more information is available including transcripts and background.

For overseas readers Darryl Kerrigan was the hero in the rather amusing Aussie movie "The Castle," about a 'little guy' who takes on the corporate interests who are attempting to take his house and wins. A clip of it can be seen here.

Climate Science; Yelling “Fire” in a crowded theatre.

Cartoon by Ramirez.

One of the things that has consistently concerned me in the climate change debate since it started was the unscientific attitude adopted by alarmist scientists, who have tended to be arrogant, overbearing, elitist, and have in the main ignored anything which disagreed with their aims. In short they have tended to research towards an already decided conclusion. No true scientific mind would ever come to the conclusion that the debate was settled while facts were still in dispute.

Science, if it is to be of any benefit to mankind has to be above reproach. Sure there will be mistakes made from time to time, but if intellectual honesty is applied these will be fewer and should be quickly corrected. Climategate is a warning to all of us that science is not all that it should be in this regard, to the point where there is a serious danger that future threats will be ignored, as scientific evidence may be held in disrepute. Something like the boy who cried wolf.

One of the best reads I get is “Quadrant Online,” Which this time has an excellent article dealing with this, “Sceptics in Wonderland.” The item referres to a posting in the Wall St Journal “Climategate: Science Is Dying:”
Surely there must have been serious men and women in the hard sciences who at some point worried that their colleagues in the global warming movement were putting at risk the credibility of everyone in science. The nature of that risk has been twofold:

First, that the claims of the climate scientists might buckle beneath the weight of their breathtaking complexity. Second, that the crudeness of modern politics, once in motion, would trample the traditions and culture of science to achieve its own policy goals. With the scandal at the East Anglia Climate Research Unit, both have happened at once. ….

The East Anglians' mistreatment of scientists who challenged global warming's claims—plotting to shut them up and shut down their ability to publish—evokes the attempt to silence Galileo. The exchanges between Penn State's Michael Mann and East Anglia CRU director Phil Jones sound like Father Firenzuola, the Commissary-General of the Inquisition.

For three centuries Galileo has symbolized dissent in science. In our time, most scientists outside this circle have kept silent as their climatologist fellows, helped by the cardinals of the press, mocked and ostracized scientists who questioned this grand theory of global doom. Even a doubter as eminent as Princeton's Freeman Dyson was dismissed as an aging crank. ….
The Quadrant article includes a letter written to the author from Christopher Essex, a leading Canadian applied mathematician and award-winning author, who gives his views:
My friend Willie Soon passed on an article from your “Wonder Land” column. It’s very good. It is an angle that I have anticipated for a very long time.
Wonderland is certainly where I have been trapped for more than twenty years. But it is not nearly as nice as Alice’s version. Thoughts of the inquisition come to mind instead.

Many of we scientists have been ringing the alarm bells from the beginning on this. We have been telling everyone who would listen about who we were dealing with. We have known all along.

Climategate is no surprise at all to us. Evidence for this is in my book with Ross McKitrick from 2002, Taken by Storm. It won a $10,000 prize, and is now in a second edition. But few were listening. If my book had a title like Oh, my God, we are all going to die, I am sure that it would have been on the NYT bestseller list at once.
…

Science is alive and well in the individual scientists who are not caught up in gaming the system for bigger grants. I call it small science. Many of them are doing very unfashionable things, and are happy to get no recognition for it.

That is where you can find the real scientists. That is where the future will be.

A milestone in this mess can be said to be when John Houghton of the IPCC said it was the IPCC’s job to “orchestrate” the views of science. Everything that has happened flows as an inevitable consequence of that.
Some important research fields have been “orchestrated” out of existence. Even before Climategate, I have been saying that we have set ourselves back a generation by taking the money from governments with so many strings attached.

Governments leaders wanted something where they could absolve themselves of the responsibility for making informed decisions. They would have to read science stuff otherwise. They ordered up a kind of unnatural scientist that would tell them precisely what they wanted to hear.
…..
Both items deserve to be read in full. One of the great ironies of this whole thing has been the attempts to smear privately employed scientists as working for vested interests, by those hacks working for the greatest vested interest of all; the state.

Fresh climate fraud scandals; NASA and New Zealand.

Cartoon; by Nicholson.

In the wake of climategate it seems that the response by the press is “Climategate; what Climategate?” and that from world leaders is a deep sense of urgency to get our feet on the sticky paper before the whole edifice collapses. Rudd is apparently in a nervous haste to get to Copenhagen to help his little buddy Obama.

Meanwhile “The Australian” points out that the Saudis are making waves:
SAUDI Arabia has seized on a series of stolen British university emails to become the first country to cast doubt on the consensus about man-made climate change ahead of next week's Copenhagen summit.

The world's largest oil exporter claims the emails stolen from researchers at the University of East Anglia undermine the scientific case that human activity is overheating the planet.

But its (Saudi Arabia) chief Copenhagen negotiator, Mohammad al-Sabban, suggested in an interview with the BBC yesterday that there was now no longer any point in seeking an agreement to reduce emissions.

"It appears from the details . . . that there is no relationship whatsoever between human activities and climate change," he said.
The article is at pains to claim that “the emails do not prove that any evidence on climate change was falsified,” which is relatively bizarre given that they clearly indicate that the scientists involved were operating on a political rather than scientific agenda, concealing information which could lead to other conclusions, avoiding FOI requests and attempting to shut down opposing views. Attempting to get rid of the medieval warm period, and concealing temperature declines over the last decade strikes me as falsification.

In my experience those who conceal evidence usually have something to hide.

My old mate Bawb mentioned in a comment on my last post that NASA has now been caught out in this scandal. It seems that in an attempt to make October the hottest on record they decided to use September figures from Russia:
… On Monday, Nasa's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), which is run by Al Gore's chief scientific ally, Dr James Hansen, and is one of four bodies responsible for monitoring global temperatures, announced that last month was the hottest October on record.

This was startling. Across the world there were reports of unseasonal snow and plummeting temperatures last month, from the American Great Plains to China, and from the Alps to New Zealand. China's official news agency reported that Tibet had suffered its "worst snowstorm ever". In the US, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years.

So what explained the anomaly? GISS's computerised temperature maps seemed to show readings across a large part of Russia had been up to 10 degrees higher than normal. But when expert readers of the two leading warming-sceptic blogs, Watts Up With That and Climate Audit, began detailed analysis of the GISS data they made an astonishing discovery. The reason for the freak figures was that scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on October readings at all. Figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running.
The Kiwis are now finding themselves in the same position with a breaking scandal over manipulation of raw figures to show a significant rise in temperatures over the last century where none exists:
NIWA's news release in response to this story appears to have been delayed, and according to a radio news report a few minutes ago Rodney Hide, leader of the minority Act Party and a minister in the National Government, is now calling on his Cabinet colleague, Climate Change Minister Nick Smith, to "please explain."

The New Zealand Government's chief climate advisory unit NIWA is under fire for allegedly massaging raw climate data to show a global warming trend that wasn't there.
The scandal breaks as fears grow worldwide that corruption of climate science is not confined to just Britain's CRU climate research centre.

In New Zealand's case, the figures published on NIWA's [the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric research] website suggest a strong warming trend in New Zealand over the past century. …

But analysis of the raw climate data from the same temperature stations has just turned up a very different result. …
Gone is the relentless rising temperature trend, and instead there appears to have been a much smaller growth in warming, consistent with the warming up of the planet after the end of the Little Ice Age in 1850. …
This whole hoax needs to be tossed out and a serious investigation done on malpractice, fraudulent use of taxpayer money, and in paticular whether or not the governments involved were paying for results that suited their agendas.

“Global Warming” is Man-Made after all.”

Illustration: Ben and Bawbs Blog.

I have been away for a while now. Owing to a special job that was on I was asked to stay back a bit longer during which time I got pneumonia and was laid low for a while. I have been home for three days now but was too crook to put anything meaningful out.

Along with most reality based thinkers I have maintained for some time that the GW/climate change thing was a massive fraud, possibly the worst since Piltdown Man. The “hockey stick” was already proven to be one, even before the manipulation of the data behind it was exposed. It is difficult to get much news when doing 12 hr shifts away, so it was a pleasant surprise to arrive home and find out about “Climategate,” which didn’t seem to make it to the news in any big way.

Mark Twain summed this up with:

"If you don't read the papers you are uninformed. If you do read the papers, you are misinformed."

The following is from Viv Forbes, of Carbon Sense.

There is a colossal scandal erupting in the blogosphere, and in the better media. Someone, probably an insider offended by what he saw was going on, leaked a large volume of emails from within the global warming priesthood centred within the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, UK.

These show a pattern of manipulation, suppression and selection of data and evidence all designed to create and maintain the global warming myth.

So now we know – Global Warming is man-made after all – it is created by a small group of dedicated believers posing as scientists using manufactured data, selected statistics, dodgy computer models and “mates reviewed” papers.

No one has fully assessed what it all means yet, but for a flavour of what will be revealed: and also here:

Sceptical, Gullible or Devious?

“In the global warming spectrum there are three groups – the realists, the alarmists, and those serving other agendas and interests.

“The realists are sceptical, the alarmists are gullible and the vested interests are devious.

“Sceptical” is a more worthy position than “gullible” or “devious”.

Viv Forbes, Carbon Sense Coalition, Australia Nov 2009

All of this supports what “Carbon Sense” and many others have been saying for ages - we need an independent enquiry into the science. That will probably find that man has no control over the climate, and all that the Cap-n-Tax scheme will do is destroy jobs, profits and future prosperity.

Go here for a comment on the rise of the Unsceptical Scientists.

It’s all about Cash

The global warming campaign is not about climate, or pollution, or energy conservation – it is overwhelmingly about CASH.

Cash income for government wastrels who have trouble balancing their books and funding their election bribes; cash profits for bankers, traders and speculators in the permit trading game; cash receipts for carbon credit harvesters; cash subsidies for those manufacturing and installing alternative energy playthings; cash foreign aid in “climate compensation” for failed (“less developed”) states; cash windfalls for countries like Russia from selling their surplus emissions permits; cash investments from refugee industries seeking carbon tax asylum in places like China and India; cash research grants for sycophant academics; and cash welfare handouts for “lower income supplicants”.

Where does all this cash come from? From obvious and underhand carbon taxes, “environmental” fees and emission permit fees funded from increased energy and food costs. The cost will fall on every consumer and every shareholder. Everyone who manages a weekly budget or a retirement nest-egg should be very afraid of what these dangerous people are planning.

If you want to understand why something with fragile scientific support gets such massive media and political support, just ask “Cui bono?” – Who benefits?

Jo Nova puts it well: "Global Bullies want your money.”

Last Chance to shore up the Liberal Party and Defeat Cap-n-Tax

Despite the proven fraud behind the pretext for a Ration and tax scheme, (RATS) Rudd and company are determined to implement it and intend to push the issue again soon. This clearly indicates that the issue at hand is not GW but a tax and power grab of unprecedented proportions.

The outcome depends mainly on the Liberal Senators. Now is the last chance to encourage the rapidly growing band of climate realists including Nick Minchin, Cory Bernardi, Julian McGauran, Tony Abbott, Dennis Jensen, and Christopher Back. They join the strong Nationals led by Barnaby Joyce and Ron Boswell in the senate who long ago took a stance opposing any version of an ETS. They saw the sense and the political benefits in opposing every ETS as the public awakens to the reality that carbon demonisation is a baseless scam. The public is waking up fast, and it is becoming a worried and angry electorate.

There are also closet climate realists in the ALP. Soon the stronger of them will have to come out and defend workers and consumers

Every little bit helps. Politics is a numbers game, so please add to the numbers opposing any form of Cap-n-Tax Scheme. Write and/or phone your local member, senator and party machine and make sure they understand we will work to unseat everyone who votes for this legislation. Write to you local paper, ring talk back radio. Like Horatius on the bridge, we few amateurs are opposing the massed phalanxes of well funded Green Warriors looking to pillage our economy, grab power over our lives and set up their new world empire.

And for another assessment of those tricky people exposed in Climategate.
