I find an interesting attitude in a recent article in the NYT, “The Real ’08 Fight: Clinton v. Palin?”

Ms. Palin, the governor of Alaska and Mr. McCain’s running mate, gave the best speech of her party’s convention on Wednesday night, drawing 37 million television viewers. And she made it clear that she aimed to win over undecided women voters with her own version of the history-making, “I’m one of you” message that Mrs. Clinton employed to great effect in her fight for the Democratic nomination.

Mrs. Clinton, meanwhile, has a legacy to protect: She has no intention of turning over her “18 million cracks in the glass ceiling,” as she called her supporters, to Ms. Palin, a social conservative whose policy positions are poison in Hillaryland. What is more, Mrs. Clinton wants to be the one to make history as the first woman to win at the top of a presidential ticket, be it in 2012 or 2016.

Does this imply that Hillary or perhaps the Democratic Party has some implied ownership over the people who voted for her?

It seems to me that this represents, whether by Hillry or the author, a member of the liberal press, the sort of elitist attitude that Palin has so succinctly brought to the fore. It is most likely that Hillary is cooperating in order to be seen to do enough in order not to become the one to blame for the loss by Obama.

If Obama loses she will get blamed anyway. The DNC are not likely to start crying mea culpa, over their torpedoing of her campaign and the resultant resentment caused among her hard working and genuine supporters. It is easier and safer for them to blame her for the divisions they will claim were caused by the length of her campaign.

Hillary is in a no win situation here but probably wishes to keep her prospects alive by giving support to her opponent, Obama.

Meanwhile one of the most courageous ladies I have encountered, Betty Jean King of Puma and Nobama is to appear on ‘Xtreme Radio’ on Saturday night.

That should be the headline in newspapers around the world this morning. A couple of weeks ago I took off my Vice Presidential hat to act as political commentator and pundit to critique Barack Obama's V.P. choice of Joe Biden. I called it a terrible choice, a bland choice, and strategically, a failure. As a matter of fact, strategically, BOTH parties blew it. If Obama picked Hillary (and her 18 million primary votes) he would have had a good chance of sitting in the White House. But Joe who? From Dela-where? The guy known for plagiarizing his speeches?

After watching last night's Sarah Palin performance, I can only say, now, that Obama's best shot at victory is if Biden plagiarizes Palin's speech! …….


A pit bull Hockey Mom just left most of America's most gifted male politicians (and orators) dead in the middle of the road. She sliced and diced Obama, last night, like a wood chipper. Obama's political career is lying in pieces, in a ravine somewhere in Alaska- with snowmobile tracks leading from the carnage.

Palin's line about a “community organizer” being about the same as a small town Mayor...”except the mayor has responsibilities” was a hockey puck to Obama's groin. Then, she finished Barack off, by referring to his fake Greek columns being carted back to Hollywood. Ouch! I could hear every guy in Middle America screaming in laughter. With one line she emasculated Barack's entire fake career. Then, the hunter shot him once more for good measure with the line about Obama saying nice things to small town America to their faces...then badmouthing them when he's back in San Francisco. Did the body move on that last shot? Or was he already finished off? Hard to tell. ……..


She not only sliced, diced and embarrassed her political opposition, she defeated the entire media elite and the “Beltway Insiders.” She left them all gasping for air, on their knees, pleading for mercy from the professional huntress. Palin's speech was a verbal fusillade to the imaginary heart of every elite liberal snob in America.

“The great community organizer” is on life support this morning wondering if anyone got the license plate of that Hockey Mom. …….


From one S.O.B. (son of a butcher), small town boy, street-fighter, small businessman, home-school dad and citizen politician…to another- Congratulations Sarah for serving notice to the Hollywood, Manhattan and D.C. pompous, snobby elite class that it's time for real change. I'll see you in Washington D.C.

Somehow, I think, from this moment on, things will never be the same. Real Americans have served notice: we are taking back America. And, to the Obamas and Bidens and old school boys, I say- “be afraid, be very afraid!”

I was impressed by Rudy on 9/11 but this impressed my with what a great speaker he is.

I loved the bit where he said, "Change is not a destination, and hope is not a strategy."

Sarah Palin has given a brilliant speech today and energised the whole convention, in which among some great common sense gave Obama the slapping of a lifetime. The full text can be found here.

The following are some the parts I really liked.

I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities. 

I might add that in small towns, we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening.

We tend to prefer candidates who don't talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco.

I've noticed a pattern with our opponent.

Maybe you have, too.

We've all heard his dramatic speeches before devoted followers.

And there is much to like and admire about our opponent.

But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform -- not even in the state Senate.

This is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting, and never use the word "victory" except when he's talking about his own campaign. But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed ... when the roar of the crowd fades away ... when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot - what exactly is our opponent's plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish, after he's done turning back the waters and healing the planet? The answer is to make government bigger ... take more of your money ... give you more orders from Washington ... and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world. America needs more energy ... our opponent is against producing it.

My fellow citizens, the American presidency is not supposed to be a journey of "personal discovery." This world of threats and dangers is not just a community, and it doesn't just need an organizer.

For a season, a gifted speaker can inspire with his words.

For a lifetime, John McCain has inspired with his deeds.

If character is the measure in this election ... and hope the theme ... and change the goal we share, then I ask you to join our cause. Join our cause and help America elect a great man as the next president of the United States.

I'm not a member of the permanent political establishment.

And I've learned quickly, these past few days, that if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.

But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion -- I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people.

I pledge to all Americans that I will carry myself in this spirit as vice president of the United States. This was the spirit that brought me to the governor's office, when I took on the old politics as usual in Juneau ... when I stood up to the special interests, the lobbyists, big oil companies, and the good ol' boys network.

With Russia wanting to control a vital pipeline in the Caucasus, and to divide and intimidate our European allies by using energy as a weapon, we cannot leave ourselves at the mercy of foreign suppliers.

To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies ... or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia ... or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries ... we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas.

But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all.

Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines ... build more new-clear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal and other alternative sources.

Support for Bristol Palin.

Bristol is assured of the support of her family, but in this trying time, weathering the firestorm the left has brought down on her head with all its vitriol, it must be great to have that special person in her life there to support her.

There is a joke doing the rounds at the moment.

Q. How could they have kept the Palin pregnancy out of the paper?

A. Say that John Edwards was the father!

This of course could never work, as even the NYT and WaPo could work out that Bristol Palin has too much class for John Edwards.

From Al at the Catskill Commentator comes a quote from The Corner: -

“Interesting that when John Edwards’s and Jesse Jackson’s ‘troubles’ came to light, nobody asked whether they were employing proper birth-control techniques, and, if not, why not. Those questions are reserved for the daughters of female candidates” — for the teenage daughters of female conservative candidates, I might add.

Fred Thompson on McCain/Palin.

Fred Thompson is a special kind of guy. Fred was the guy who first got me interested in giving support to a candidate in the Presidential race. He is an original one of a kind character, he is witty, he has strength of character, he has gravitas, and much more.

As such it is especially pleasing to see Fred speaking for the McCain/Palin ticket at the National Convention. What follows is some of what he had to say. Follow the link to see the whole thing.

Tonight our thoughts are still with our friends and fellow citizens in the Gulf Coast area, and our thanks go to those who have worked so hard to keep them safe. There can be no more important work than this.

But what we are doing at this convention is also important to our country.



We are going to nominate the next President and Vice President of the United States of America.



We do so while taking a different view of our country than that of the other party.



Listening to them you'd think that we were in the middle of a great depression; that we are down, disrespected and incapable of prevailing against challenges facing us.



We know that we have challenges ... always have, always will.



But we also know that we live in the freest, strongest, most generous and prosperous nation in the history of the world and we are thankful.



Speaking of the vice presidential nominee, what a breath of fresh air Governor Sarah Palin is.



She is from a small town, with small town values, but that's not good enough for those folks who are attacking her and her family.



Some Washington pundits and media big shots are in a frenzy over the selection of a woman who has actually governed rather than just talked a good game on the Sunday talk shows and hit the Washington cocktail circuit. Well, give me a tough Alaskan Governor who has taken on the political establishment in the largest state in the Union -- and won -- over the beltway business-as-usual crowd any day of the week.



Let's be clear ... the selection of Governor Palin has the other side and their friends in the media in a state of panic. She is a courageous, successful, reformer, who is not afraid to take on the establishment.



Sound like anyone else we know?

She has run a municipality and she has run a state.



And I can say without fear of contradiction that she is the only nominee in the history of either party who knows how to properly field dress a moose ... with the possible exception of Teddy Roosevelt.



She and John McCain are not going to care how much the alligators get irritated when they get to Washington, they're going to drain that swamp.



But tonight, I'd like to talk to you about the remarkable story of John McCain.



It's a story about character.



John McCain's character has been tested like no other presidential candidate in the history of this nation. ……
Now, being a POW certainly doesn't qualify anyone to be President.



But it does reveal character.



This is the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of history have sought in their leaders.



Strength.


Courage.


Humility.


Wisdom.


Duty.


Honor.



It's pretty clear there are two questions we will never have to ask ourselves, "Who is this man?" and "Can we trust this man with the Presidency?"



He has been to Iraq eight times since 2003.



He went seeking truth, not publicity.



When he travels abroad, he prefers quietly speaking to the troops amidst the heat and hardship of their daily lives.


And the same character that marked John McCain's military career has also marked his political career.



This man, John McCain is not intimidated by what the polls say or by what is politically safe or popular.



At a point when the war in Iraq was going badly and the public lost confidence, John stood up and called for more troops.


And now we are winning. ……


To deal with these challenges the Democrats present a history making nominee for president.



History making in that he is the most liberal, most inexperienced nominee to ever run for President. Apparently they believe that he would match up well with the history making, Democrat controlled Congress. History making because it's the least accomplished and most unpopular Congress in our nation's history.



Together, they would take on these urgent challenges with protectionism, higher taxes and an even bigger bureaucracy.


And a Supreme Court that could be lost to liberalism for a generation.



This is not reform.



And it's certainly not change.



It is basically the same old stuff they've been peddling for years. America needs a President who understands the nature of the world we live in.

Revenge is counterproductive.

I recently posted on a prediction made by Lemuel Calhoun which was in part: -

I believe that it will only be a short time before leftist wackjobs start criticizing the Palins for being "selfish" in choosing to have a child when she was so "old". They will imply that it was her "doctrinaire pro-life extremism" which led her to allow the pregnancy to come to term making the baby a "prop" in her "anti-woman fundamentalist agenda of intolerance". 



We will be told about what a low quality of life a child with Downs Syndrome has and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the more stupid and thuggish Dim commentators start referring to the baby as a "mongoloid" (this is the kind of thing that Michael Moore does so well). …. 


I may have underestimated McCain but one literally cannot have too low an opinion of left-liberal Democrats. There is absolutely no moral depth to which they are not compelled to dive.

In agreeing with this assessment I added; “There is no depth of reprehensible, unmitigated, bastardry that these far left freaks that now run the Democratic Party will not sink to, and this may be in fact mild compared to reality.”

Well this has turned out to be horribly accurate, on day one they were alleging that that the new son was actually her daughter’s child, and there was no sign of her being pregnant before the birth. Hot air was able to produce several photos of an obviously pregnant Sarah. Its amazing what the left can’t find when they don’t want to.

Then there is the Alaskan ethics investigation into whether she abused her power in dismissing the state's public safety commissioner. This relates to the demand for action over her brother in law who threatened harm to her sister, threatened to shoot her father, used a taser on his ten year old stepson, and the list goes on. How the left can use the case of a thug like that against her is beyond belief.

OK so Bristol is pregnant, big deal. So far they are claiming McCain didn’t vet her properly, while they look for something substantial to say, other than “Why doesn’t she get an abortion?” The left idea of ‘pro choice’ only involves one particular choice.

The admission by Todd that he had a DUI conviction 22 years ago as a 22 year old is going to be tricky for the left to use, as their intellectual leader, Ted Kennedy got totally blind shitfaced drunk and drove Mary Jo Kopechne off the Dike Bridge in Chappaquiddick and left her there to die when he was 37 years old.

Anyway the reason I am bringing this up is that this is starting to make people angry to the point that they wish to retaliate, possibly against Chelsea Clinton. Revenge may seem sweet but I feel strongly that such an act would be a really bad idea, with no possible upside to it. This applies especially to Chelsea.

There is no evidence that she or either of her parents have anything to do with this, and it is extremely unlikely that they would do so.

She could in fact have some empathy for Bristol Palin in that she was under a great deal of public scrutiny at the same age. If she was at the same age as Bristol while the recent primaries were on it is a fair bet that the Obama surrogates would have attacked her, this is not about truth it is about intimidating opponents.

Unless I am missing something Chelsea Clinton comes across as a rather smart, dignified, reasonably attractive, pleasant young lady and a credit to her family. Any attack on her would not just fail, but would leave the attacker looking decidedly grubby.

The people doing this are the enemy, and those are the ones we should be discrediting. Leave families alone.

The Democratic Party is now run by the ultra far left and this is why this is happening. Jack Kennedy, LBJ, and their ilk would never have associated themselves with this type of tactic, especially attacking a candidate’s 17-year-old daughter. This is a party now where Moveon is the tail that wags the dog; those reps who are not bowing to them are genuflecting to Code Pink.

The average Democrat voter is a decent solid citizen, who must soon start to realize that the party has moved away from the ideas of its base, and must be viewing the current antics of these people with increasing disgust.

Lets present a contrast.
