Glen Beck, with Sarah Palin.

I found this at Libertarian Republican. Well worth watching.

  1. After watching both McCain's and Obama's speeches on TV Tuesday night, McCain no less than NEEDS to run Alaska Gov Sarah Palin as his VP mate.

  2. Not knowing much about Gov. Palin I think she makes a solid choice as she has a 90% approval rating in Alaska. She is also pro-life and pro-gun, along with being very conservative which would solidify the base.

I personally like Romney better as he is better known and has dealt with crossing the line as a Governor and knowing a lot about economics.

However, whover McCain picks, he or she would be much better than Obama's choice.

I don't know if he has any libertarian credentials but I'm with you there on Romney. There is soooo much he would bring to the ticket if McCain were to chose him. For one thing, that would just solidify a McCain presidency.

Come to think of it, there is one very libertarian thing about a McCain/Romney ticket in that McCain not showing solidarity with the Christian Right and said group's hatred with Romney would give a very secular group like the libertarians something to root for. With the alternative being a man with numerous ties to all sorts of fanatical religious nutbags it clearly would be a good case for the lesser of two evils.

  4. Ted; I doubt if anyone can match Obama at speaking, he is very good. I doubt that anyone with his level of inexperience could get to where he is without it, although a compliant press sure helps.

It is substance where he misses out.

CCNIS, and Alex, I like Romney too, maybe a little too inclined to look for government solutions but yes very likable.

It is quite interesting that during our first attempt to start a libertarian party in Australia, (Progress Party) we had a fairly disproportionately large number of Mormons involved, to the point of being criticized as 'the party of Mormons and mining engineers.'

I really don't understand what the Christian right have against them, but they also dislike McCain as 'not conservative enough.

  5. The Christian Right does not like Mormons, who they regard as false prophets. Of course, they regard themselves as the only true believers and if you're not one of them, you're going straight to hell.

I suggest for best effect, the "Progress" label be dumped, lest you be mistook for Progressives, which is one click above Socialist.

  6. Bottom line, with Palin as VP, McCain WINS.

Without Palin, McCain likely does not win.

    Case closed.

  7. I have the feeling that Palin could be the key to the White House this time.

Actually Al, I would be very interested in finding out from the Christian Right how their message of intolerance to so many things is consistent with the teachings I tend to find, of individual sovereignty, and tolerance I find there.

The right tried the old progressive line but it didn't work, our ideas were too far away from socialism to be taken seriously.

Our current effort is the Liberty and democracy Party, a name I quite like.

  8. Q&A How can McCain SIMULTANEOUSLY attract both Hillary AND Bob Barr voters? Answer: PALIN Veep!

  9. But she said she wasn't interested in the job and not only that, do you think McCain would pick someone who supports drilling in ANWR when he is so against it?

  10. Well Alex, I am hoping she will change her mind on that.

I have a feeling that the McCain position on ANWR is more likely to be one of the reasons she might not accept, than her position being a reason not to ask her.

It would be a great thing if she could get him up there and show him the size of it and how negligible any impact would be.

While I like McCain I find positions like this one quite disturbing, and I sometimes wonder whether those around him are doing him the true service of pointing out areas where he is wrong.

I have the feeling they don't, which is another reason he needs Palin.
