GW Causes mental illness; Climate frantic claim.

A new paper, prepared for the Climate Institute is claiming that rates of mental illnesses including depression and post-traumatic stress will increase as a result of climate change:

The paper, prepared for the Climate Institute, says loss of social cohesion in the wake of severe weather events related to climate change could be linked to increased rates of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress and substance abuse. As many as one in five people reported ''emotional injury, stress and despair'' in the wake of these events.

This seems to be a rather odd claim given that after these events hordes of volunteers appeared from everywhere to assist, and millions of dollars were donated by the public to help the victims. But wait, there’s more:
The report, A Climate of Suffering: The Real Cost of Living with Inaction on Climate Change, called the past 15 years a ''preview of life under unrestrained global warming.” ''While cyclones, drought, bushfires and floods are all a normal part of Australian life, there is no doubt our climate is changing,'' the report says.

''For instance, the intensity and frequency of bushfires is greater. This is a 'new normal', for which the past provides little guidance.
Well, actually it does. Every time there is a long drought, severe bushfire, or big flood, there has been someone interviewed saying that it is the ‘worst ever’ whatever it is in living memory. This is not climate change, its par for the course. Then we think of the little children, can’t forget them in any GW argument:
The report also looks at mental health in the aftermath of major weather events possibly linked to climate change. It shows that one in 10 primary school children reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder in the wake of cyclone Larry in 2006. More than one in 10 reported symptoms more than three months after the cyclone.

''There's really clear evidence around severe weather events,'' the executive director of the Brain and Mind Research Institute, Professor Ian Hickie, said.
These people are in denial. For years children have been subjected to repeated screenings of “An Inconvenient Truth,” and hey, who can forget the climate change advertisements featuring children having nightmares of apocalyptic events, such as fires, floods, tidal waves, and so on, all designed to emotionally blackmail parents to take action to use less energy. Only a cynic would suggest that the image (left) would be mentally abusive to “the little children.”

Of course, to be even handed we have to admit that there is evidence of mental derangement around the climate debate.

Our Jules, is maintaining that the current campaign against her is the result of the ‘Americanization’ of our people. Ms Gillard was addressing a “mild-mannered group of Inner West Courier readers,” with the first question being asked by a child in a suit who presented her with a book from his class, before asking the tough questions. Real statesmanship there.

She seems to be forgetting, or is suffering the Canberra blissful unawareness syndrome, where politicians are ignorant of the fact that Australians are not sycophantically fascinated with leaders. Every PM from Menzies through, Holt, McEwen, McMahon, Hawke, Keating, Howard, and Rudd, had their detractors, and none of them lied to the electorate by saying, “There will be no carbon tax under a government I lead.” Its not the Yanks Jules, its you.

Al Gore has claimed that people who deny climate change are the new racists. This is actually Al playing catch up. Its nice to see the Yanks scrambling in the wake of our own Australian nitwit, Greg Combet who insists that the Abbott policy is racist, a white Australia climate policy, and xenophobic. Go figure.

Loss of social cohesion is nothing to do with immigration then, and the subsequent laws which prevent people from speaking out? Bastards.

  3. There has not been any loss of social cohesion. We have absorbed waves of immigration in the past, the dire predictions around Asian immigrants were unfounded as most of them quickly got jobs and made the most of the opportunities this country had to offer.

Current idealistic domestic policies though, threaten serious trouble down the line.
