Obama on belonging to the state video; we didn’t make that
“We own this country. It is not politicians owning it, politicians are employees of ours.” – Clint Eastwood
"The government is the only thing we all belong to." - Democratic National Convention's opening video.
"I freed a thousand slaves; I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves." – Harriet Tubman
Well, we all like to have that sense of belonging, but in the main we get to decide what group or organization that we choose to belong in. According to the DNC though, we all belong to the government.
Many, if not most people accept the government as the master, which is unfortunate and shows a total misunderstanding of the relationship that is intended to exist between individuals and the state in Western society. We, in what were intended to be free societies should have the state as the hired help, looking after our rights, not exerting ownership over us.
Since the President noticed or was told of the stupidity of the statement he has repudiated it with words to the effect of, “We didn’t build that video, somebody else made that happen.” On the other hand, the Dems seem to be happy with it:
Perhaps Harriet Tubman was on to something.
